Some flights are about getting somewhere. Others are about seeing something you have looked at your whole life from an entirely new angle. In January 2022, Maria C. brought her parents to Linden Airport in New Jersey for a morning tour over New York City, and the story she left behind is one of our favorites.
A Morning Above the Skyline
Morning light does something particular to Manhattan. The towers catch the sun on one side and hold shadow on the other, the rivers turn silver, and the whole island looks freshly drawn. Maria and her parents lifted off from Linden, just minutes from Manhattan by air, in our Piper Cherokee PA-28 with Captain Renato at the controls.
What stood out to her was not only the view, but the way the flight was flown and hosted. Here is her review in full:
My parents were super delighted with the morning flight and our experience was made even better because he also spoke Spanish. This amplified our already positive experience for sure.
The ride and landing were smooth. Renato would also check on us often to make sure we were all good as well as giving us a heads up on any potential turbulence up ahead. He is a great pilot with fantastic communication and offers amazing hospitality which elevates his business.
We have only great things to say about Azzurra City Tours.
So please, book your city tours here or give a little love by sharing and following this dope spot. Opa!

Why Communication Matters at 1,000 Feet
Maria singled out something we care about deeply: the steady check-ins, the heads-up before a bump of turbulence, the sense that someone is paying attention to how you are doing and not just where the airplane is going. A first flight in a small airplane can feel like a big step for a passenger, especially for parents being treated by their daughter. Knowing what is coming next turns nerves into anticipation.
That her family could hear the tour in Spanish mattered too. A skyline narrated in your own language lands differently. It stops being a list of landmarks and becomes a conversation.
What You See From the Cherokee
On a clear morning, the route unfolds like a slow reveal. The Statue of Liberty appears below, small and unmistakable, with the harbor spreading out around her. Lower Manhattan rises next, the Financial District stacked tight against the water. Then the long spine of the island: the Hudson on one side, the East River on the other, bridges strung between boroughs, Central Park cut green into the grid.
Because this is a private fixed-wing tour, the airplane is yours for the flight. There is no shared cabin, no stranger's shoulder in your photo. Just your family, the pilot, and the windows.
Come See It for Yourself
