A Clear October Morning Over New York
There is a particular kind of light over New York in October. The haze of summer has lifted, the air turns crisp, and the skyline stands out against the Hudson with a clarity you rarely get any other time of year. It is the season our pilots quietly look forward to, and it is the season Gershon G. chose for his private day flight with Azzurra City Tours.
Like all of our tours, his began at Linden Airport in New Jersey, a small general aviation field that sits just minutes from Manhattan. Guests often tell us that the departure itself is part of the appeal. There are no terminals, no crowds, no long walks down a jet bridge. You park, you meet your pilot, you walk out to the airplane. Within a few minutes of leaving the ground, the city begins to unfold ahead of the windscreen.
What Gershon Said
Gershon flew with us in October 2026 and left a five-star review afterward. He kept it short, which is often how the best reviews read.
Two things stand out in those few lines. The first is the word professional. Our flights are conducted in a Piper Cherokee PA-28, a fixed-wing airplane flown by a certificated pilot who talks guests through the route, the airspace, and the landmarks as they appear. The sightseeing is the reason people come, but the calm competence in the left seat is what makes the experience feel effortless. Gershon noticed it, and we are glad he did.
The second is the simplest line of all: loved every moment. A skyline flight is not a long event measured in hours. It is a compressed, concentrated stretch of time where something remarkable is always just outside the window. Guests who say they loved every moment are usually describing that feeling of never quite knowing where to look next.
What You See From the Airplane
Flying out of Linden puts you on the New Jersey side of the harbor, which means the approach to the city is a slow reveal rather than a sudden one. The Statue of Liberty comes into view below, seen from an angle almost no one experiences from the ground or from a ferry deck. Liberty Island and Ellis Island sit in the water like models, with the harbor traffic moving around them.
Then the skyline itself. Lower Manhattan rises first, the financial district packed tight at the island's southern tip. Further north, the Midtown towers stack up along the avenues. From the air, the geometry of the city makes a different kind of sense: the long green rectangle of Central Park, the bridges stitching the boroughs together, the rivers defining every edge.
Daytime flights like Gershon's offer the clearest detail. Streets, rooftops, piers and parks all read sharply in natural light, and on a crisp autumn day the visibility can stretch for miles in every direction.
Come Fly With Us
Gershon ended his review by saying he would do it again, which is the compliment we value most. A private airplane tour is a small, personal thing. It is just you, your guests, your pilot and the city laid out below.
If you have been curious about seeing New York from the air, Linden Airport is closer than you think. We would be glad to show you the skyline the way Gershon saw it, on a clear October morning with nothing between you and the view.
