jony G.'s December Skyline Flight Over New York City

5-star review from Jony G. — Azzurra City Tours

Some flights are memorable because of the weather. Some because of the light. And some because of the person in the left seat, who makes an unfamiliar experience feel easy from the first minute. For jony G., who flew with Azzurra City Tours in December 2021, it was all of the above — but the part worth writing down was how comfortable the whole thing felt.

A Short Drive, Then a Very Different View

Our flights leave from Linden Airport in New Jersey, a small field that sits only minutes from Manhattan by air. There is no terminal maze, no long security line, no crowd. Guests park, walk out toward the ramp, and meet their pilot beside a Piper Cherokee PA-28 — a four-seat, fixed-wing airplane with a high-visibility cabin and a wing set below the windows, which is exactly what you want when the whole point is looking down.

That simplicity matters. Most people who come to us have never been in a small aircraft before, and the difference between a nervous first flight and a great one usually comes down to how the pilot handles those first ten minutes on the ground: the walkaround, the headset check, the explanation of what happens next and in what order. It is not a performance. It is just clarity, offered patiently.

In jony's Words

jony kept his review brief, and somehow that makes it land harder:

Professional and comfortable are two words that do not always travel together, and hearing them in the same sentence is the compliment we care about most. Anyone can point an airplane at a skyline. Making a first-time passenger feel steady enough to actually enjoy the view — to stop gripping the seat and start looking out the window — is the harder skill, and it is the one that turns a sightseeing flight into a story people tell afterward.

What Opens Up Along the Way

The route out of Linden delivers quickly. Within minutes the New Jersey suburbs give way to water, and then the harbor opens beneath the wing. The Statue of Liberty appears from an angle almost nobody sees from the ground — not craning upward from a ferry deck, but level with her, the torch and the crown and the star-shaped base laid out clearly below.

From there the Manhattan skyline stacks up along the Hudson: Lower Manhattan first, glass and steel crowded onto the tip of the island, then the long spine of Midtown with its familiar towers spaced out like landmarks on a map. Bridges thread the rivers. Boats leave white lines across the harbor. In winter, when the air is cold and dry, the visibility can be extraordinary — the kind of clarity that makes the city look almost drawn rather than photographed.

Because the cabin holds a small group and everyone wears a headset, the flight stays conversational. Guests can ask what they are looking at, and get an answer, instead of guessing at shapes below.

Come See It Yourself

If you have lived near New York for years and never seen it from above, or you are visiting and want one hour that outlasts the rest of the trip, this is a straightforward way to get it. A private airplane, a short drive from the city, and a pilot whose job is to make the experience feel as good as it looks.

Thank you, jony, for flying with us and for taking the time to say so.
