Libby's First Time in NYC, Seen From the Sky Above It

5-star review from Libby H. — Azzurra City Tours

There is a particular kind of magic in seeing New York City for the first time. Most visitors meet it from the sidewalk, looking up. In August 2025, Libby H. met it from a few thousand feet, looking down, on a private airplane tour departing Linden Airport in New Jersey, just minutes from Manhattan.

Her review afterward was short, generous, and said almost everything we hope a first-time guest will feel.

Would 100% recommend this experience to anyone! Made my 1st time in NYC so memorable and special. The owner Ash is so friendly and welcoming, and made sure I had all the information I needed for the flight. My pilot was so knowledgeable and made me feel very safe for the flight. I saw all the main landmarks and didn't feel rushed at all. The views were gorgeous and the whole flight felt very personal. Thank you again <3

Starting on the ground

Every flight begins long before takeoff, with a conversation. Libby mentioned that Ash, the owner, made sure she had all the information she needed beforehand, and that matters more than people expect. A first flight in a small aircraft comes with questions: where to go, what to bring, what it will feel like. Answering those clearly is part of the experience, not an errand to get through.

Small airports help too. Linden is quiet and human-scaled. There are no long terminals or crowds, just an airplane waiting outside and a pilot who has time to talk. Guests walk out to the aircraft, get settled, and hear exactly what is about to happen next.

Knowledgeable, unhurried, personal

Libby described her pilot as knowledgeable, and said she felt very safe throughout. That combination is the whole job. A good pilot is not only flying the airplane; they are narrating a city, pointing out what is coming up on the left, and giving guests the calm confidence to relax and simply look.

She also wrote that she didn't feel rushed at all, and that the flight felt very personal. Those two things go together. Because our tours are private, the airplane belongs to your group for the duration of the flight. There is no stranger beside you and no schedule pushing you along. If something catches your eye, there is time to look at it properly.

What you see from up there

The Manhattan skyline reveals itself differently from the air. Skyscrapers that feel infinite from the street resolve into a single dense ridge of glass and stone, edged by water on both sides. The rivers make sense. The bridges make sense. The grid of the streets becomes visible as a pattern rather than a maze.

The Statue of Liberty stands out in the harbor below, small and unmistakable, exactly where every photograph has always placed her. Beyond that, guests take in the sweep of the waterfront, the Financial District, and the long green interruption of Central Park in the middle of it all. In a fixed-wing airplane, the ride is steady and smooth, with big windows and a wide, level view of everything passing beneath.

Come see it for yourself

Libby's flight is the kind we like best: someone visiting New York for the first time, who chose to see it from above and came back down with something she called memorable and special. You do not have to be a first-time visitor to feel that. Plenty of lifelong New Yorkers step off the airplane saying they had never really understood the shape of their own city until that moment.

If you would like to see the skyline the way Libby did, we fly private tours out of Linden Airport year-round, weather permitting. Bring a camera, bring someone you like, and give yourself the time to look.
