Twenty years in the city, and a whole new view
There is a particular kind of guest we love flying: the born-and-raised New Yorker. They know the grid by heart. They can name the bridges from memory and tell you which subway line runs beneath which avenue. And then the airplane lifts off the runway at Linden, banks toward the Hudson, and suddenly the city they have known their entire lives rearranges itself into something they have never actually seen.
That was Anthony O., who joined us in December 2021 for his very first flying tour. As he put it, he was "raised in NYC for over 20 years and have never done a flying tour." Two decades of walking those streets, and the skyline was still holding something back.
Running late, and it was fine
New York traffic being what it is, Anthony and his friend arrived behind schedule. It happens more often than you would think, and it is never the crisis guests fear it will be. Nobody gets rushed through the gate. Nobody gets a shortened flight to make up the difference. There is tea, there is a proper briefing, and then there is the airplane.

What a first-timer actually experiences
Anthony's line about the ride not being rocky is one we hear a lot from first-time flyers, and it is worth dwelling on. A Piper Cherokee PA-28 is a fixed-wing airplane, which means it flies the way an airplane flies: steady, level, purposeful. There is no hover, no vibration, no lurching. Guests who have talked themselves out of a sightseeing flight for years are often surprised by how ordinary the sensation of flying turns out to be, right up until they look out the window.
From Linden, Manhattan is only minutes away. The route unfolds along the harbor and up the river, with the Statue of Liberty standing green against the water, the financial district rising in a dense cluster, and midtown stretching north in a corridor of glass and stone. Bridges thread the East River. Central Park appears as a clean rectangle of green cut into the grid. Every window is a photograph waiting to happen, which is exactly why Anthony and his friend came home with so much footage.
A host, not just a pilot
The detail Anthony returned to most was the narration. A tour where nobody explains anything is just a flight. What makes it a tour is a pilot who points things out, fields every question, and does it with the same patience on the twentieth question as the first. That, plus music in the headsets and a smooth landing to finish, is the whole idea.
