Some flights are about the view. Others are about the moment. For Amy C. and her fiancée Ivelis, a November 2021 morning departure from Linden Airport turned out to be both — the day they got engaged, several thousand feet above the city they love.
A Surprise Months in the Making
Long before the propeller ever turned, the planning had already begun. Ivelis reached out to Renato to build the day around a single idea: a proposal with the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop. What followed was a quiet back-and-forth of ideas, suggestions, and one very well-kept secret.
Amy only learned afterward how much thought went into it — including the photographer who came recommended, and who captured the whole thing as it unfolded.
Two First-Timers and a Fear of Heights
Neither Amy nor Ivelis had ever flown in a small plane before. Add a fear of heights to the equation and it's easy to imagine the nerves in the parking lot at Linden. In their own words, those nerves didn't survive the introduction.
Upon arriving Renato welcomed us with such much joy and excitement (he is also very good at keeping surprises haha)
Neither of us had ever been on a small plane. My partner is also scared of heights, so of course we were nervous. Well that ended as soon as we met Renato. Not only was he welcoming but he was descriptive about the experience beforehand and told us exactly what to expect. We felt safe and also very comfortable to ask him any questions we had.
We enjoyed the space, it was so cozy and well equipped. The plane was very comfortable and we loved how conscious he was about it being our first time. We took so many wonderful photos and videos. It truly was an experience we will never forget and cannot wait to repeat.
We did the morning ride since we had other plans after and when they said ";s all about perspective" it's not a lie, I've always loved NYC but after this ride I'm even much more in love. I cannot emphasize how amazing everything was.
Please if you are hesitating if whether to book Azzurra City Tours or another company please remember with Azzurra you will have a once in a lifetime experience from beginning to end. Nothing about this experience is generic and that speaks volume!

What the Morning Air Looks Like
Morning flights have a particular quality to them. The light is low and warm, the air is usually calmer, and the city is just waking up. From the cabin of our Piper Cherokee PA-28, the Statue of Liberty appears below on her own small island, then the harbor opens up and Lower Manhattan rises ahead — glass towers catching the early sun, bridges stitching the boroughs together, and the full length of the island stretching north.
Because it's a fixed-wing airplane with a high-visibility cabin and just a few seats, the experience feels intimate rather than industrial. There's room to talk, to ask questions, to point at something and have your pilot tell you what it is. Amy described the space as cozy and well equipped, and that's exactly the intent — private, unhurried, and built for people who want to actually look, not just be transported.
It's All About Perspective
That phrase Amy quoted back to us is one we take seriously. A skyline you've walked beneath your whole life becomes something else entirely from above. Amy said she loved New York before the flight and loved it more afterward. That shift is the whole point.
