Matthew V.'s Discovery Flight Over the NYC Skyline

View of the Manhattan skyline through the window of a Piper Cherokee during Matthew V.'s discovery flight from Linden Airport

A First Look From the Left Seat

Some people come to us for the view. Others come because they have been quietly wondering, for years, whether flying might be something they could actually do. A discovery flight sits comfortably in the middle of those two impulses. You get the Manhattan skyline unfolding through the window of a Piper Cherokee, and you also get a real sense of what it feels like to be part of the flight rather than a passenger along for the ride.

In September 2026, Matthew V. joined us at Linden Airport in New Jersey for exactly that. His five-star review afterward captured the appeal of the flight better than any brochure could, because it named all three reasons people show up in the first place.

★★★★★
Whether you're looking to try something new or pursue recreation or a career, this was an amazing experience. Great flight instructors, very informative and worth every penny.

Curiosity, Recreation, or a Career

That opening line is worth sitting with. Matthew arrived open to whichever of those paths the flight might point toward, and that is genuinely how a discovery flight works. For some guests it becomes a one-time memory, a spectacular afternoon they will describe to friends for years. For others it is the first logged hour of something much longer.

What makes the difference is the conversation in the cockpit. Our instructors talk through what they are doing and why: how the airplane is set up before departure, how we coordinate with air traffic control, what the airspace around New York City actually looks like from the inside. Matthew described the experience as "very informative," and that word matters to us. A scenic flight can be beautiful without teaching you anything. A discovery flight should do both.

What the Skyline Looks Like From a Cherokee

Linden Airport sits only minutes of flying time from Manhattan, which means the view arrives quickly. The Cherokee is a high-visibility, fixed-wing airplane with a single wing below the cabin, so the windows look out and down across open water and open city with very little in the way.

Guests typically see the Statue of Liberty standing in the harbor, close enough to make out her raised torch and the green of her copper skin. Beyond her, the financial district rises in a dense cluster of glass, with the taller towers of Midtown stacked behind. On a clear day the bridges thread the rivers below, the parks read as green rectangles in the grid, and the whole island resolves into something you can finally take in at once.

Because this is a private flight, there is no shared cabin and no scripted narration competing for attention. It is you, your instructor, and a headset conversation that can go wherever your questions take it.

An Invitation

Matthew came away calling the experience amazing and worth every penny, and the part we appreciate most is that he framed it as a beginning rather than a box checked. That is what we hope every discovery flight feels like.

If you have been circling the idea of flying, whether as a new experience, a hobby, or a career worth exploring, a discovery flight from Linden is a straightforward way to find out how it sits with you. You will see the New York City skyline the way very few people ever do, and you will learn something real about how an airplane works while you are up there.

We would be glad to have you in the airplane. Bring your questions and a camera.
