The First Flight You Never Forget
Almost everyone remembers their first time in a small airplane. Not the kind with a jet bridge and a boarding group, but the kind where you walk across the ramp, climb in beside the pilot, and watch the propeller spin up a few feet from the windshield. For some guests, that's the most nervous part of the day. For most, it's the moment the whole experience stops being an idea and becomes something they'll be describing to friends for years.
In April 2025, Samyajit D. and his group came out to Linden Airport in New Jersey for exactly that. They flew with Azzurra City Tours in our Piper Cherokee PA-28, a fixed-wing airplane that keeps the New York City skyline framed in the window from the moment you level off. Afterward, Samyajit left a five-star review that we think says more about first flights than anything we could write ourselves.
In Samyajit's Words
What stands out in Samyajit's note isn't a single view or landmark. It's comfort. He mentions feeling at ease, he mentions the aircraft being well kept, and he mentions Rafa taking control whenever he felt the need. That last detail matters to us. On a scenic flight, the pilot's job is not only to fly the airplane but to read the cabin, keep the workload invisible, and make decisions early rather than late. When a guest walks away describing that as reassuring rather than intrusive, it means the balance was right.
What the Flight Looks Like
Linden Airport sits just minutes from Manhattan, which is part of what makes these flights feel so immediate. There's no long transit, no sprawling terminal. You arrive at a small general aviation field, meet the people flying you, and take off.
From the air, the geography of the region finally makes sense. The Statue of Liberty appears below, smaller than most people expect and somehow more striking for it. The financial district rises at the tip of Manhattan island, then the grid unspools north past the midtown towers. Bridges stitch the boroughs together. On clear days the horizon stretches far beyond the city, and guests spend the first few minutes simply turning their heads, trying to take in every direction at once.
Because it's a private flight in a fixed-wing airplane, the cabin stays conversational. Guests ask questions. Cameras come out. Nobody is competing for a window seat.
An Invitation
If you've never flown in a small airplane, Samyajit's recommendation is probably the most useful thing on this page. First-time flyers do well on these tours, precisely because the pace is calm and the people flying you expect the questions.
Come out to Linden, meet Ash and the team, and see the skyline the way it was meant to be seen — from above, with the whole city laid out in front of you. We'd be glad to fly with you.
