Sunset Over Manhattan: Alissia's Private Skyline Flight

5-star review from Alissia L. — Azzurra City Tours

There is a particular half hour in New York when the city stops being a place and becomes a light show. The glass towers of Midtown catch the last of the sun and throw it back in copper and amber. The Hudson turns from grey to gold. The bridges go from steel to silhouette. If you are standing on a sidewalk, you might catch a sliver of it between buildings. If you are a thousand feet up in a small airplane, you get all of it at once.

That is the window Alissia L. chose for her flight with Azzurra City Tours in May 2025, departing from Linden Airport in New Jersey, just minutes from Manhattan. She left us a five-star review afterward, and it was short in the way that the best reviews often are — the kind of note someone writes while the feeling is still fresh.

Great experience, and wonderful service. Went right at sunset and got some perfect views. I absolutely recommend this tour!

Why sunset is worth planning around

Guests often ask us when the best time to fly is, and the honest answer is that the skyline is generous at every hour. But sunset does something specific. The light comes in low and sideways, which means the buildings cast long shadows across the water and the whole city gains depth. Windows that looked flat at noon suddenly glow. And because the sun sets to the west, over New Jersey, a flight out of Linden puts you in a genuinely good position for it.

Alissia timed hers right at that hour, and her note — "got some perfect views" — is about as concise a description of golden-hour flying as we have read. There is not much to add to it.

What the flight looks like from the seat

Our tours fly in a Piper Cherokee PA-28, a fixed-wing airplane with high, wide windows and a quiet, steady feel in the air. It is a small aircraft, which is exactly the point: you sit close to the glass, you can hear your pilot talking through what is coming up next, and nothing separates you from the view.

The route out of Linden takes you north along the Hudson corridor. The Statue of Liberty appears first, small and green in the harbor, and then grows as you come around. Ellis Island sits just beyond her. From there the skyline opens up — the financial district stacked tight at the southern tip, then the long spine of Manhattan running north, the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building keeping their own company in Midtown, Central Park lying green and rectangular where the density suddenly stops.

On a clear evening you will pick out the bridges strung across the East River, the ferries drawing white lines through the harbor, and the far edges of the boroughs stretching out toward the horizon. It is the version of New York that exists on maps and postcards, except it is moving, and you are in it.

Wonderful service, and what that means to us

Alissia mentioned service before she mentioned the views, which we noticed. A private flight is a small, personal thing. There is no group, no schedule to hurry, no crowd at the window. Our pilots meet you at the airport, walk you through the aircraft, and fly the route at a pace that lets you actually look. Questions are welcome. So are long silences while you take it in.

Come see it for yourself

Linden Airport is an easy drive from Manhattan, Brooklyn, and most of northern New Jersey, and the flight itself is the kind of thing you can do on an ordinary evening and remember for years. Whether you are marking an occasion, showing the city to someone visiting, or simply curious what your own neighborhood looks like from above, there is a seat by the window with your name on it.

Sunset slots go quickly, for reasons Alissia has already explained better than we could.
