A Celebration Above the City
Some occasions deserve more than a dinner reservation. In October 2021, Anetta S. booked a private airplane tour with Azzurra City Tours to mark something special — and ended up with a memory that sits well above the skyline she came to see.
The flight departed from Linden Airport in New Jersey, a small, unhurried field just minutes from Manhattan. There is no terminal shuffle here, no security line, no gate number. Guests walk out to the airplane, meet their pilot, and climb aboard a Piper Cherokee PA-28 — a four-seat, fixed-wing aircraft with a high window line and a view that belongs entirely to whoever is sitting in it.

What stands out in Anetta's review is not the view — though she loved it — but the preparation behind it. Favorite music queued up before takeoff. Favorite beverages waiting on board. What You See Up There
The route out of Linden brings the city into view quickly. The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and the wide mouth of the harbor come first, then the Statue of Liberty, standing alone on her island and looking, from a few thousand feet, exactly as small and exactly as monumental as she should. Ellis Island sits just beyond her.
From there the flight follows Manhattan's edge. One World Trade Center rises out of the financial district. The Hudson runs long and silver beneath the wing. The Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building step into view as midtown unfolds, and Central Park opens up as a clean green rectangle pressed into the grid — a shape you have seen a hundred times on maps and never quite believed until you see it from the air.
At golden hour, all of it changes character. Glass towers catch the low light and turn amber. Shadows stretch east across the avenues. The rivers go copper. Anetta called that combination — a small plane and the city at golden hour — perfection, and it is hard to argue with her.
