There is a moment, somewhere over the water south of Manhattan, when the city stops being a place you are standing in and becomes something you can hold in a single glance. The bridges line up. The rivers draw their borders. The skyline, which from the sidewalk feels endless, suddenly has edges. Guests often go quiet right about then.
That was the flight Seneshaw A. described after a November 2025 tour with Azzurra City Tours, departing from Linden Airport in New Jersey aboard our Piper Cherokee PA-28.
"Now we can say we have seen New York"
It is a small line, but it says a great deal. Plenty of people visit New York. They walk the High Line, ride the ferry, stand in Times Square with their necks tilted back. All of that is wonderful, and none of it quite shows you the shape of the place. From a few thousand feet, the geography finally makes sense: Manhattan as an island, the harbor opening out toward the Atlantic, the boroughs spreading in every direction.
Seneshaw's phrasing suggests exactly that shift — not just seeing more of New York, but finally seeing it whole.
Flying with Rafa

What the flight looks like
Our tours depart from Linden Airport (KLDJ), a quiet general aviation field in New Jersey that sits only minutes of flying time from Manhattan. There are no terminals, no security lines, no long walk to a gate. You meet your pilot on the ramp, walk to the airplane, and take off.
From there, the classic sights arrive quickly. The Statue of Liberty on her small green island. Ellis Island beside her. The financial district rising at the tip of Manhattan, with One World Trade Center standing above it. Then the length of the island itself — Midtown, the Empire State Building, the slim supertalls along Central Park's southern edge, and the great rectangle of green they overlook.
Because the Piper Cherokee is a fixed-wing airplane with high wings of visibility from a low, steady cruise, the ride is remarkably stable. It's an easy platform for photographs, and an easy one for simply looking.
