Josef's Private NYC Skyline Flight From Linden Airport

5-star review from Josef O. — Azzurra City Tours

Some cities reveal themselves slowly. New York does the opposite: it hits you all at once, and then keeps hitting you from every new angle you find. Sidewalks, rooftops, bridges, ferries — each one gives you a different version of the same skyline. And then there is the version you only get from a few thousand feet up, with the door of a small airplane between you and the whole island.

In May 2022, Josef O. joined us at Linden Airport in New Jersey for a private flight over Manhattan in our Piper Cherokee PA-28. He left a five-star review afterward, and it was short in the way that honest reactions often are.

"An incomparable and unique way to see the city"

Best NY experience I have ever had! It's an incomparable and unique way to see the city.

That word — incomparable — comes up more often than you might expect from guests who have already done the observation decks, the boat rides, and the long walks across the bridges. There is nothing to compare it to because the perspective simply does not exist anywhere else. From a helicopter you hover. From a tour bus you crane your neck. From a fixed-wing airplane, you move with the city, tracing its shoreline the way a map is drawn.

Josef's flight departed from Linden, which sits just minutes of flying time from Manhattan. That short hop is part of the appeal. There is no long transit, no queue snaking through a terminal. You meet your pilot, you walk out to the airplane, and within a few minutes of leaving the ground the New York Harbor opens up ahead of you.

What you see from the air

The Statue of Liberty is usually the first landmark that makes people reach for their cameras. From the air she reads differently than from the water — smaller against the harbor, but suddenly and clearly placed, with Lower Manhattan rising behind her like a wall of glass.

Then comes the skyline itself. The financial district towers, the long grid of avenues running north, the bridges stitching the boroughs together, the green rectangle of Central Park cut into the middle of it all. On a clear afternoon you can follow the whole length of the island in a single sweep of the eye, something that is almost impossible to do standing on the ground.

Because it is a private flight, the airplane is yours for the duration. No strangers in the next seat, no shared window. Just you, whoever you brought with you, and a pilot who is happy to point out what you are looking at and let you take your time with it.

An invitation

Reviews like Josef's are the ones we return to, because they capture something we hear in the cabin all the time but rarely see written down so plainly. People arrive curious and leave a little changed by the scale of what they have just seen.

If you are visiting New York and looking for the experience you will still be describing to friends years from now — or if you have lived here for decades and never seen your own city from above — a private flight out of Linden may be it. The skyline is waiting, and it looks best from a few thousand feet.
