Herb's NYC Skyline Flight From Linden Airport: A 5-Star Story

5-star review from Herb L. — Azzurra City Tours

There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over a small airplane just before takeoff. The engine is running, the checklist is done, and the runway at Linden Airport stretches ahead — a modest strip of New Jersey pavement that happens to sit only minutes from one of the most photographed skylines on earth. For guests who climb into our Piper Cherokee PA-28, that quiet is the last ordinary moment before Manhattan fills the windows.

Herb L. flew with us in September 2026, and afterward he left a five-star review that captured something we care about more than any single view: the feeling of not being rushed.

★★★★★
An amazing experience and I would highly recommend for someone looking for either a beautiful tour of the city or flight instruction. Rafa was very friendly, took his time to walk us through everything, never came across as in a rush to get things finished.

Unhurried From The First Handshake

Herb's note about pace is worth sitting with. A flight over New York City is a compressed experience — the city arrives quickly and leaves just as fast — and it is easy for that urgency to bleed into everything around it. We try hard not to let it. Before engine start, Rafa walks guests around the airplane, explains what he is checking and why, talks through the route, and answers whatever comes up. Some guests want to know how the wing works. Others want to know where to point the camera. Both are good questions.

That unhurried approach is also why Herb mentioned flight instruction alongside sightseeing in the same breath. Some people come to us purely for the view. Others come curious about flying itself, and want a real look at what the left seat involves. Those two things are not in conflict on a small fixed-wing airplane. You can enjoy the skyline and, at the same time, understand a little more about how you got there.

What The Flight Actually Looks Like

Linden Airport is a genuine advantage. It is a small, uncrowded general aviation field in New Jersey, close enough to the city that the skyline appears almost as soon as you have climbed away. There is no long transit, no waiting your turn in a queue of aircraft — just a short taxi, a takeoff, and then the harbor opening up beneath the wing.

From there, the landmarks arrive in sequence. The Statue of Liberty stands in the water below, small and unmistakable, and seeing her from the air rearranges your sense of the harbor entirely. Lower Manhattan rises just beyond, glass and steel packed shoulder to shoulder. Farther uptown the island narrows and the green rectangle of Central Park cuts through the grid. The bridges thread the East River. On a clear afternoon you can trace the whole shape of the city at once, which is something no street-level view can offer.

Because our Cherokee is a private airplane carrying only your group, there is room to talk. Guests ask what a building is. They ask Rafa to say something again. They look left, then right, then left again. Nobody is competing for a window.

Come See It For Yourself

We are grateful to Herb for taking the time to write, and especially for noticing the thing that is hardest to advertise: that the flight belongs to the people in the airplane, not to the clock. Whether you are marking an occasion, showing a visitor the city properly, or quietly wondering whether flying might be for you, the invitation is the same.

The skyline is waiting just a few minutes north of Linden. When you are ready, Azzurra City Tours would be glad to take you up.
