A girls day, a golden hour, and a small plane
Some plans start as a simple idea between friends and end up becoming the story you tell for years. That is more or less what happened when Gabriela P. and her friend decided to spend an afternoon together in February 2022 — not at a restaurant or a rooftop, but a few thousand feet above the Hudson, watching the sun slip behind the New York City skyline from the windows of a private airplane.
Azzurra City Tours flies out of Linden Airport in New Jersey, a small, unhurried field just minutes from Manhattan. There is no terminal chaos, no long security line, no rush. Guests arrive, meet their pilot, walk out to the aircraft, and take off. The whole thing feels less like transportation and more like being let in on a secret.
What Gabriela had to say
What stands out in Gabriela's review is not only the view — it is everything around the view. The welcome at the airport. The drink offered before boarding. The pilot doubling as photographer, calling out the right moment and the right angle. Those details are what turn a scenic flight into an afternoon two friends will keep talking about.
Comfort in a small airplane
Our flights are flown in a Piper Cherokee PA-28, a fixed-wing four-seat airplane. It is intimate by design. You are close enough to your pilot to have a real conversation, close enough to your friend to point and laugh at the same time, and close enough to the window that the city feels genuinely near rather than abstract.
Gabriela mentioned being made comfortable through the entire flight, and that is something we care about a great deal. First-time flyers in a small aircraft often arrive a little unsure. A few minutes into the climb, that usually turns into wide eyes and a phone pressed against the glass.
What you see up there
The route unfolds quickly. Within minutes of leaving Linden, the New Jersey suburbs give way to open water, and then the Statue of Liberty appears below — smaller than you expect and somehow more moving for it. Ellis Island follows. Then the full sweep of Lower Manhattan, the financial district towers stacked shoulder to shoulder, the Hudson and East Rivers wrapping around the island, the bridges strung between boroughs like stitching.
At sunset, all of it changes character. Glass facades turn copper and rose. Shadows stretch across midtown. Lights start flickering on block by block while the western sky is still burning. It is the same skyline everyone knows from the ground, rearranged into something unfamiliar.
Come see it for yourself
Whether it is a birthday, an anniversary, a proposal, a visit from out-of-town family, or simply a girls day like Gabriela's, an hour over New York has a way of resetting how you see the city. Linden Airport is easy to reach, the aircraft seats you and up to two guests, and the skyline is waiting.
We would love to fly you.
