February in the New York area has a particular kind of beauty. The air turns crisp and clear, the haze of summer disappears, and the city stands out against the sky in sharp, almost architectural detail. It is one of our favorite times of year to fly, and it is exactly when Deyanira J. joined us at Linden Airport for a private tour of the New York City skyline in our Piper Cherokee.
She left us a five-star review afterward, and it captured the day so well that we wanted to share it in full.
Her Words
— Deyanira J.
It Starts on the Ground
We think a good flight begins before anyone steps onto the ramp, and we are always glad when guests notice. Deyanira singled out the lounge, and in the middle of a cold month, that heater earns its keep. There is no rush at Linden, no long terminal, no line. Guests settle in, warm up, meet their pilot, talk through the route, and ask whatever questions come to mind. By the time the airplane is ready, the flight already feels familiar rather than intimidating.
That easy pace matters especially for first-time flyers in a small aircraft. Sitting in a comfortable room and hearing the plan out loud takes the mystery out of it. Deyanira mentioned that Captain Renato made sure she and her group felt comfortable at all times, and that is really the whole job description: fly well, explain what is coming, and read the room.
What the Air Looks Like From Up There
Linden sits just minutes from Manhattan, so the views arrive quickly. On a clear day, the harbor opens up beneath the wing with the Statue of Liberty standing in the middle of it, small and unmistakable at the same time. From there the skyline unfolds in layers: Lower Manhattan stacked tight around One World Trade Center, the long spine of the island running north, Midtown's towers catching whatever light the season is offering, and the bridges strung across the East River like stitching.
A fixed-wing airplane makes for a steady, unhurried platform. Deyanira described the flight as smooth, and that is typical of our high-wing-over-water routing on a calm winter afternoon. Because our pilots call out the landmarks as they come into view, guests are not scrambling to figure out what they are looking at. Deyanira noted that Captain Renato pointed out all the amazing views for breathtaking pictures, which is exactly the intention. Every seat is a window seat, and there is time to actually look before reaching for the camera.
Come Fly With Us
What we appreciated most about Deyanira's review is how much of it is about feeling at ease. The skyline is spectacular on its own; it does not need help from us. Our contribution is the part around it — a warm place to start, a pilot who explains things clearly, and an airplane flown gently enough that you remember the views instead of the ride.
To Deyanira: yes, we hope to see you again. And to anyone thinking about it, a private tour from Linden Airport is one of the simplest ways to see New York from a perspective almost nobody gets. Whether the day is bright and cold or soft and golden, the city always shows up.
