Some views have to be seen from the air
There is a moment on nearly every flight out of Linden Airport when conversation in the cabin simply stops. The wing dips slightly, the Manhattan skyline slides into the window frame, and whatever anyone planned to say gets quietly abandoned. Andrea B. flew with us in September 2025, and her review captures that feeling better than we could.
Comfortable first, amazed second
Andrea mentions feeling "safe as can be," and that is the part of the day we care about most. A first flight in a small airplane is a new experience for many of our guests, and the hour before takeoff matters just as much as the time in the air. Ash and Rafa walk through what to expect, where everyone will sit, how the headsets work, and what the airplane will feel like as it climbs away from the runway. Questions are welcome, and there are no silly ones.
The Piper Cherokee PA-28 is a fixed-wing airplane, which means a steady, level ride and generous windows on both sides. Guests can hear the pilot clearly through the intercom, so the narration happens in real time: what that bridge is called, which neighborhood is passing below, where to look next. That is what Andrea meant by "super informative." The commentary is not a script. It responds to what the sky is doing and what the passengers are curious about.
What passes by the window
Departing from Linden means Manhattan is only minutes away. The route unfolds quickly: the New Jersey shoreline, the harbor opening up, and then the Statue of Liberty standing in the water below, small and unmistakable. From there the island of Manhattan reveals itself end to end, with the Financial District's towers clustered tight, the long green rectangle of Central Park pushed into the grid, and the bridges stitching the boroughs together.
Andrea wrote that "photos truly do it no justice," and every pilot who flies this route agrees. A photograph flattens the city. From a few thousand feet, the skyline has depth, layers, and scale that a camera cannot hold. Buildings you know from postcards suddenly have context, sitting in relation to the rivers and the harbor and the endless spread of the metropolitan area beyond. Guests still take photos, of course, and they are lovely. They are simply not the same as being there.
A different kind of NYC day
Most people experience New York from street level, looking up. A private airplane tour inverts the whole thing. There is no crowd, no line, no scheduled group filing past a viewpoint. It is your party, your pilot, and a set of windows. Some guests come for a birthday or an anniversary. Some are visiting the city for the first time and want to understand its shape.
