Some birthdays call for something a little different. In October 2025, Emmanuel C. decided that his wife's birthday deserved more than a dinner reservation, so he booked a private airplane tour over the New York City skyline, departing from Linden Airport in New Jersey. What followed was, in his words, a 10 out of 10 experience.
Linden is one of those quiet, almost secret places. It sits just minutes from Manhattan, but there are no crowds, no security lines, no long walks down a jet bridge. Guests arrive, meet the team on the ramp, and step straight into a Piper Cherokee PA-28. Within a few minutes of the wheels leaving the runway, the skyline is filling the window.
A welcome that set the tone
Emmanuel's story starts on the ground, before the engine ever turned over. He wrote:
That line about doing more than he should have is one we hold onto. A birthday flight is not a routine booking for us either. Ash spends the time it takes to make sure guests feel looked after rather than processed, and Colby, who flew Emmanuel and his wife, treats the cockpit as a conversation rather than a monologue. Questions about the airplane, the airspace, the buildings sliding past below, all of it gets a real answer.
What the window shows you
Flying a small fixed-wing airplane out of Linden gives you a perspective that is hard to describe until you have seen it. Manhattan does not appear all at once. It builds. First the flat sprawl of New Jersey, then the water, then the towers rising in layers with the Hudson threading between them.
The Statue of Liberty sits below in the harbor, smaller than most people expect and somehow more moving for it. Ellis Island, the bridges, the long spine of Midtown skyscrapers, the parks and rooftops that never show up in postcards. Because the Cherokee's windows are wide and the cabin is quiet enough to talk in, there is time to point things out to each other, to recognize a street you have walked a hundred times from an angle you have never seen.
Guests often go quiet for a stretch of the flight. Then they start talking all at once. Both reactions feel right.
