A 10/10 Flight Over NYC: fily N.'s Skyline Story

5-star review from fily N. — Azzurra City Tours

The moment the skyline appears

There is a particular second on every flight out of Linden Airport when conversation stops. The airplane has settled into its cruise, the New Jersey suburbs have smoothed out below, and then Manhattan simply arrives — a wall of towers standing up out of the water, closer and more three-dimensional than any photograph has ever managed to suggest. Guests tend to reach for their phones a beat too late. Nobody minds.

In March 2026, fily N. joined us for exactly that experience, flying over the New York City skyline in our Piper Cherokee PA-28. Afterward, she left a five-star review that captured the day in one sentence.

Why "safe hands" is the compliment we care about most

Plenty of reviews mention the views, and we love reading those. But the line that means the most to us is the one fily wrote about feeling safe. A first flight in a small airplane is a leap of trust. You are stepping into a four-seat aircraft with someone you met minutes earlier, and no amount of scenery matters if your shoulders never come down from around your ears.

That is why the flight begins on the ground. Rafa walks guests through the airplane before anyone climbs in — what the preflight check involves, how the headsets work, what the different sounds mean once the engine comes to life, and what to expect during the takeoff roll. Questions are welcome, including the ones people are slightly embarrassed to ask. By the time the airplane lines up on the runway, the unknowns have mostly been retired.

fily flew with both the pilot and the owner along for the ride, which meant a running commentary and an extra set of eyes on the landmarks below. Her word for both of them was "amazing," and we will take it.

What the flight looks like

Linden Airport sits only minutes from Manhattan, which is the quiet advantage of departing from New Jersey. There is no long transit before the good part starts. Within a few minutes of leaving the runway, the Statue of Liberty comes into view on her island, small and green and startlingly familiar from above — a perspective almost nobody gets from the harbor ferries.

From there the skyline unfolds: Lower Manhattan stacked shoulder to shoulder, the bridges stitching Brooklyn to the island, the long grid of Midtown with its famous spires pushing up through the middle. Because we fly a fixed-wing airplane rather than a helicopter, the ride is smooth and steady, with high wings of conversation and low noise inside the headsets. It feels less like a thrill ride and more like a slow, deliberate look at one of the great cities on earth.

Guests who bring a camera almost always end up putting it down for a while. Some of the best moments of these flights are the ones you simply watch.

Come see it for yourself

Every flight is private, which means it belongs entirely to whoever is on board — a couple marking an anniversary, a family showing visiting relatives something unforgettable, a solo traveler ticking off a long-standing wish, or someone like fily who simply wanted to see New York from the air and came away calling it a 10 out of 10.

If you have been quietly curious about what the city looks like from a few thousand feet, we would love to show you. The skyline is waiting, the Statue of Liberty is right there on the way, and Linden Airport is closer than you think.
